Founded in 1922, the Better Business Bureau Serving Metropolitan New York (BBB) is a private, nonprofit membership organization. The BBB’s mission is to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust. BBB accomplishes this mission by:
- Creating a community of trustworthy businesses
- Setting standards for marketplace trust
- Encouraging and supporting best practices
- Celebrating marketplace role models, and;
- Denouncing substandard marketplace behavior
Our jurisdiction includes all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and the Mid-Hudson region. Among our services to the community, the BBB:
- Collects and reports information to assist consumers in making informed purchasing decisions;
- Develops programs to encourage firms to regulate their own advertising and selling practices;
- Serves as a neutral third party in settling marketplace disputes through mediation and arbitration;
- Alerts consumers about deceptive and fraudulent marketplace practices and cooperates with appropriate law enforcement agencies;
- Provides valuable consumer information to news media;
- Publishes and disseminates pamphlets on an array of consumer-business topics of interest; and
- Offers seminars on a wide variety of topics relevant to the local community to promote educated consumer purchasing decisions.
The focus of the BBB’s activities is to promote an ethical marketplace by encouraging honest advertising and selling practices. In carrying out this mission over the past eighty years, the BBB has developed and maintained a uniquely trusted reputation in the provision of consumer information and education to the community. Indeed, the BBB is widely regarded as the leading consumer-business organization in the country. As such, the BBB maintains a strong interest in all matters that impact the consumer-business relationship and the concomitant ability of regulatory agencies to safeguard and enhance that relationship.

Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation

The Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC) is a not-for-profit corporation under contract to provide economic development consulting services to the Office of The Bronx Borough President (the “Office of the Borough President”). It is run by a Board of Directors.
The mission of BOEDC is to assist existing Bronx based businesses to expand and to encourage additional business to start-up in or relocate to Bronx County. In fulfilling this mission BOEDC seeks to maximize employment opportunities for Bronx residents. BOEDC provides a wide array of programs and services to its clients, including site selection; financing and financial packaging; job training, technical assistance; special projects; procurement assistance; liaison services with government agencies; information dissemination; job development and placement assistance, and minority, women and small business development and capacity building. BOEDC markets the Bronx as a place to conduct business and as a tourist destination. BOEDC the administrator of the Bronx portion of the New York Empowerment Zone (the “EZ”) and as such is charged with development programs and projects, in concert with the EZ community, for funding.
